New Green, Rivoli sitting pretty

Richard Bryan, STAR Writer

New Green and Rivoli are on the verge of qualifying for the semi-finals of the South Central Confed Super League after recording important home victories in the penultimate round last weekend.

New Green, courtesy of Kemar Williams' 63rd-minute strike, inflicted a 1-0 defeat on Frazsiers Whip, while Rivoli, through goals from Devon Hodges and Anthony Greenland, tagged Manchester debutant Kendal 2-0 at Monk Street. New Green's win avenged a first round 2-0 loss to Frazsiers Whip. Kendal's loss was an improvement on the 7-1 hit they took at home.

New Green's win at Brooks Park took them to 18 points and top of the standing with two games in hand. They are now two clear of Frazsiers Whip (16 points)

and five better than Royal Lakes. The odds overwhelming favour both New

Green and Frazsiers Whip to advance, as third-place Royal Lakes must win their remaining two matches including one against New Green at Brooks Park next weekend.

Meanwhile, Rivoli, who have just one remaining game against Bodles to complete their preliminary fixtures, are on 14 points and can be overtaken on points only by Appleton. Both Bodles and Newlands have mathematical chances of reaching 14 but Rivoli are unlikely to be denied because of a healthy goal difference. In fact, Rivoli's spot in the semi-finals can be confirmed today proving Appleton avoid defeat against Newlands in a rescheduled game to be played at Naggo Head.

In other weekend results, Royal Lakes outscored Super Action 3-2 while Meadows failed to show against Four Paths.
