Man on assault rap appeals for leniency

A man accused of assaulting his sister, pleaded with the court for leniency explaining that he was a mental-health patient. Rudolph Ankles of a Corporate Area address is charged with assault occasioning bodily harm. Ankles appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday to answer to the charge.

The complainant told the court that they were at home when her son was on a laptop, playing a game. She said Ankles was shouting at her son telling him to come off the computer and she got involved.

She said he threw a bottle with water at her and went after her with a ratchet knife which resulted in her sustaining a cut on her left cheek.

Rudolph told the court, "Mi can't tek when people shout at me, me cyaa tek di noise. I was just holding her by the shoulder and the knife accidentally cut her."

A fingerprint order was requested and he is to pay a fine of $25,000 or spend six months in prison.
