A new mother, but also a trained teacher, radio personality Jennifer 'Jenny Jenny' Small has opened her very own preschool and aftercare service.

Opened on February 4, Small said she decided to start the institution, Small Treasures, because there are several things that she was looking for but could not find.

"I am a trained teacher so there are certain things that I am looking for in an institution. I looked around and there are too many things that I wanted and didn't see," she told THE STAR.

So when the opportunity came for her to lease the Lady Musgrave Road-based property, she did not hesitate.

And with the mindset that every child is as important to her as her biological child, Small said the school offers many things that its competitors don't.

She said the preschool caters to children from three months old to four years old from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. However, the aftercare programme accommodates children as old as 12 years old and this takes place between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. In addition to academics, she said the children are taught drumming, drama, speech, music, Spanish, beading and art and craft.

better relationship

And with the tag line 'Creating Stars', she said children will perform for their parents monthly. This, she said, will help to foster even better relationship between parents and their children.

With the long hours, Small says she hopes to cater for busy parents like her.

"I work long hours and I believe there are lots of parents like myself. We go long hours, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. I checked around and nobody has those long hours," she said, boasting of her trained specialist.

On Saturdays and Sundays, she said a hair grooming service is also offered. In the near future, GSat classes will be among the offerings. In an effort to help parents, Small said there is also a nanny/babysitter service for a separate cost that does not have time or day restrictions.

"It is a wonderful environment. We have done everything to ensure that these children have a total learning experience," she said.

Since starting, she said the experience has been great.

"Every single week we add children, but after we hit our quota we will stop. The children are a joy and they love the learning environment. One child referred to it as the kiddie hotel," she said, adding that she is still accepting children.
