Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was pleased following her maiden indoor meet and she had all right to, after a positive run in the 60m final at the British Athletics Grand Prix meet in Birmingham yesterday.

Trecia Smith finished second in the triple jump and Nesta Carter closed fast for a similar placing in the men's 60m final, as the Jamaican contingent made their presence felt at the Midlands meet.

indoor threat

Despite finishing second to an extremely impressive Murielle Ahoure, who registered the first sub-7 seconds time this season, a world-leading 6.99; Fraser-Pryce showed that she can become an indoor threat with a 7.09 run for second place, the same time as third-place Barbara Pierre.

American Carmelita Jeter continued to show early signs of indoor rust with a laboured 7.18 for fourth place with the other Jamaican in the race, 2006 Commonwealth Games 100m champion Sherri-Ann Brooks running sixth in 7.21.

Fraser-Pryce, in her first 60m race, won heat two in 7.18 seconds but it was Ahoure, who fired the early warning shots with a fiery 7.03 effort to win heat one.
