A Derby County supporter found guilty of racially abusing retired Reggae Boy Marlon King could face a minimum three-year football banning order.

Adam Smith, 34, was found guilty at a trial at Derby Magistrates' Court and is expected to be sentenced next month. The incident took place during a Derby County match against Birmingham at Pride Park on November 24.

The man was overheard by other fans at the match being verbally abusive about Marlon King and Derby player Nathan Tyson.

"The club has created a family-friendly environment. This sort of behaviour is not acceptable at the ground or indeed anywhere," Superintendent Gary Parkin, of Derbyshire police told UK publication Birmingham Mail.

"Although the remarks were directed at two players they were overheard by other people in the crowd.

"I'm grateful to the three witnesses who came forward to give the evidence which led to today's conviction." King said.
