STETHS and Munro take Western Champs

STETHS racked up 414.5 points, and Munro 461.5, to speed to victory in the girl's and boy's categories, respectively , of the Hanover Credit Union Western Champs on Saturday, at the Montego Bay Sports Complex in St James.

STETHS bagged 328.5 points for second position in the boys section, while Cornwall, with 209, Herbert Morrison 194 and Petersfield, 175, rounded out the top five schools.

On the girl's side Mannings, 201, were second, while third went to Herbert Morrison on 170.5 points and Petersfield with 122.5 ended in fourth, while Rusea's got 114.5 for fifth place.

Herbert Thomas of Munro, with 27 points, and Assain Hall of Petersfield, with 25 points, were the overall boy and girl's champion based on their performances.

The class champions were Herbert Thomas, Class I boys, while Odain Lewis of Cornwall, with 25 points, took Class II. JeVaughan James of STETHS ended up with 25 points to be judged Class III champion, while Tyreek Bucknor of Munro, with 18 points took class IV.

On the girls side Assian Hall was the Class I champion. Christine Moss of STETHS got 18 points to be declared Class II champion, while Vanessa Pusey, of Green Island, was the Class III champion and Class IV went to Katherine Barnes of STETHS.

The match-ups between Delano Williams of Munro and Odail Todd of Green Island did not disappoint.

Williams had to run down Todd on both occasions to win the races. He ran the 100m in a time of 10:32 to Todd's 10:39 (pb). In the 200m Williams won the double in 20.79, while Todd did 20.90. Todd came back to anchor Green Island in the 4x100m to defeat Munro, which was led by Williams.
