Ex-cop facing cocaine-related charges

Ex-cop Shanique Ramson, 26, a final year student at the University of the West Indies, was hauled before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate Court Friday to answer to cocaine-related charges.

She entered a guilty plea for possession, dealing and taking steps to export cocaine.

The court heard that on February 8 about 5:50 a.m., Ramson was attempting to board a Caribbean Airlines flight to Miami and the drug was found on her.

Three and a half pounds of cocaine was found on Ramson hidden in her brassiere and her makeshift underwear.

The court heard that when the drugs were found, Ramson said, "I know drugs in it but I didn't know what type of drugs."

Ramson's lawyer pleaded with the court to give her client a return date that would not clash with her upcoming examinations. She was given $500,000 bail.

A curfew order was also imposed weekdays 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and a stop order placed at all ports. She returns to court on March 5.
