Special Constable Phillip Blackwood and Constable Devon Henry both attached to the St Andrew Central Police Division appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate Court on Friday for breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act.

Allegations are that on the day in question, about 1:45 p.m., while on patrol at Hope Gardens they became suspicious of a car that was parked and went to check it out.

The court was told that the policemen allegedly found two UTech students in a compromising position inside the vehicle and threatened to charge them with indecent exposure.

Allegations are that the officers solicited $10,000 from the students in order not to take them into custody, however, $4,500 was accepted with the balance to be paid at a later date.

A report was subsequently made to the Anti-Corruption Branch and an investigation was launched following which a file was sent to the director of public prosecutions.

A ruling was made for the officers to be charged. They were also pointed out by the students during an identification parade.

The policemen, represented by attorney-at-law Peter Champagnie, were given $250,000 bail each with surety.

They return to court on March 15.

A stop order was placed at all ports and their travel documents are to be surrendered.
