Athletics

Thirty-one boys teams will be on the track today at St Elizabeth Technical High School to battle for supremacy in the west. Elimination races are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m with the first event on track being the 200m in all classes, to be followed by the 1500m. The 400m and 100m in all classes will be contested before lunch based on the schedule. The day will close with the 4x400m semi-finals.

Former champions Buff Bay High hold a six-point lead heading into today's final day of the two-day Jamaica National Building Society Eastern Championships at the National Stadium.

Buff Bay lead with 160 ahead of defending champions Oberlin on 154. They are followed by St Mary High (92.50), Glengoffe (75), Titchfield (40), Seaforth (34.50), Yallahs (33), Morant Bay (30), St Thomas Technical (25.50) and Happy Grove (19).

Two records were broken yesterday. Titania Markland of St Mary's College won the girls' Class One 1500m in 4:56.70, eclipsing the previous mark of 5:07.91 which was held by Margaret McKay of Oberlin. McKay was second in 5:05.82 and Shauna Brown of Glengoffe, third in 5:28.48.

Glengoffe's Shamona Hunt captured the Class Two girls' 1500m in 5:06.53 ahead of Aneisha Walker Oberlin (5:07.82) and Anniesha Black of Glengoffe (5:08.05).

Shanique Masters from Tacky High broke the girls' Class Three 1500m in time of 5:02.53, erasing the previous mark of 5:05.15 which was once held by Margaret McKay of Oberlin. Whitney Gauntlett of Buff Bay was second in 5:08.96 in front of Tamarsha Smith of Oberlin (5:22.56).

Athletics

Vere Technical's girls and Manchester High's boys sparkled in the 4x400 metres at Saturday's Camperdown Classic at the National Stadium.

Led by the experienced pair of Olivia James and Shericka Jackson, Vere clocked an impressive 3:38.55 to win ahead of St Jago High (3:46.49) and St. Andrew High (3:47.31).

It was a good day for both James and Jackson as earlier in the day they pushed their Class One 4x100m team to victory in 45.76 seconds.

The Lennox Williams-led Manchester High boys showed that they will be a strong force in the mile relay as they produced a splendid 3:11.64 to win the event. St Jago were second in 3:12.91.

Defending inter-secondary boys' champions, Calabar High, continued to display good all-round strength. Michael O'Hara clocked 10.98 to register the fastest time in the Class Two 100m.

In Class Three, Calabar's 12-year-old Tyreke Wilson clocked the fastest 100m time for the class this season with 11.26. Calabar swept the first three places with Javon Shaw and Andrew Ashby both clocking 11.59.

In the Class One 100 metres, Bog Walk High's Jevaughn Minzie posted a winning time of 10.64. St Jago's Khadish Willis was second overall in 10.74, while Jason Drake of Calabar had the third-fastest time of 10.80.
