Gemma Feare: a bonafide quadruple threat

When you see Gemma Feare for the first time, the first reaction of most people is 'wow, she is beautiful'.

However, when she opens her mouth to speak, you soon realise she is a bonafide quadruple threat: ambitious, intelligent, beautiful, and a brilliant speaker.

Gemma Feare is the reigning Miss Jamaica UK. She arrived in the island last week for a month-long visit as a part of her cultural involvement under the theme of 'Inspiring Today's Youth - To Aim For Excellence' in an attempt at strengthening the connection between Jamaicans right across the Diaspora.

During her visit to Jamaica, Gemma will participate in several mentoring and cultural activities with full plans to help motivate people along the way, as her humility has lead her to include tours of Mustard Seed Communities, Mona Rehab, Bustamante Hospital for Children, Women's Crisis Centre, several inner cities, schools and government entities.

"I want to reach out to and inspire young people here in Jamaica to achieve their goals and live out their dreams," she said.

Inspiring young people and helping them to build a strong foundation for their future is a role Gemma takes very seriously. She is a former student ambassador and e-mentor and has become heavily involved in encouraging those from the community by way of youth programmes.

The most recent being the RAP Mentors (Reaching All People) project; which provides effective solutions to serious violence and aims to transform communities, schools and homes.

Gemma took home the crown for the 2012-2013 pageant on December 1, 2012 in London. She was the standout favourite with both the crowd and judging panel. Her speech, poise and intelligence, shone above all the other contestants throughout the competition. She will use this platform to highlight the positive initiatives she endorses and hopes to influence others with her drive, vision and tenacity.

At just 21, she has lived an enviable and animated life and has travelled the world, won awards and inspired many people along her short but fruitful journey thus far. Gemma believes that her positive attitude and own personal life experiences, which include surviving the 2005 Thailand Tsunami, have helped shaped her character today.

achievements

In 2012 Gemma achieved first class honours in business management with commercial law from the University of Westminster and plans to attend Cass Business School in 2013 to study for a master in management, incorporating the entrepreneurship pathway.

Despite having no previous acting experience, Gemma's teachers recognised her potential at age 10 and she was later encouraged to apply for the Drama Scholarship Award which she won over hundreds of students. She then went on to tour Shakespeare's Twelfth Night across Canada with the Running Torch Theatre Company, performing at a number of schools, theatres and community centres in 2007.

Upon her return, she began acting in performances and festivals across the UK, including the renowned National Student Drama Festival in 2009.

In 2011, Gemma became an actor and member of the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain, which gave her the opportunity to work with some of the finest actors and tutors in the business and gained valuable skills and knowledge. She also became a member of Battersea Arts Centre in the same year and achieved the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts' Communication Award.
