Organisers of the popular Money Nights Football sponsored by Boom Energy Drink in a front field in Portsmouth, are awaiting clearance from the police in order to make a peace march through the community. This initiative comes in light of a tragic incident in which a man was shot dead during the event last Saturday. This has forced the Portmore police to pull the plug on the event. "It was a very unfortunate incident which is under investigation by the police," Rashema Ferguson, customer service supervisor at Wisynco, said. "The event was started to bring about peace and unity within youths of the various communities in Portmore, but this is far from what we have set out to do." Ferguson said the event had a great market value, and on the night of the incident had the biggest crowd ever, with even older persons in the community coming out. "It's really disappointing. We would not be going forward without the commitment from the police and we have to have proper security at the venue, even if it is from a private security company, because it is imperative that we keep our patrons safe," she said. It is reported that armed men walked up to Richard 'Richie Blacks' Renton and shot him dead. At least four other people were injured during the incident, causing a fair-size crowd to scurry for cover. Money Nights Football is a five-a-side tournament that commenced on January 12. It was scheduled to last for 12 weeks and attracted 23 teams. The winners were to pocket $50,000. The games which are played on Fridays and Saturdays at the venue, in proximity to the Waterford High School, commence at 7 p.m. and end about 11 p.m., then music is played from the Boom mobile sound
system for another hour.
