Late games for Reggae Boyz

Jamaica's first three matches in the final phase of the CONCACAF 2014 World Cup qualifying will all be late games.

According to information posted on the CONCACAF website, www.concacaf.com, the opening match on February 6 will kick off at 9:30 p.m. at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, while on March 22 at the National Stadium kick off is set for 8:30 p.m. Four days later, on March 26, the Reggae Boyz will play away to Costa Rica at the Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica in San Jose. Kick off time for that match is 9 p.m. The times for the remaining qualifiers have not yet been posted. (Note: The times listed above are Jamaican times).

Meanwhile, in Montego Bay yesterday, national head coach Theodore Whitmore said that it is now time to embrace "a common goal" as Jamaica's Reggae Boyz begin final preparations for their opening game.

support

Whitmore, who knows a lot about playing in Mexican conditions, used the occasion of the launch of the Sandals/ATL St James FA Senior League to call for more support for the players.

He said competing against the likes of the United States, Mexico, Honduras, Costa Rico and Panama will be difficult given that in 1998 when the country qualified for France, those countries took Jamaica lightly but this time around they will be prepared.

"There is a huge difference in funding between competing countries, and will continue to be so unless greater support is secured for the campaign," Whitmore said.

He added: "Of course I would be naive to think Jamaica can compete against the likes of the US, Mexico and Costa Rico in the area of funding but at a minimum we need to ensure that all the basics are covered for our participation and preparation."

Meanwhile, the Sandals/ATL St. James FA Senior League kicks off on Friday with a double header at Jarrett Park, with the feature match, North Gully Ambassadors versus Fogo at 6 p.m. The opening game at 4 p.m. pits Reggae Youths against Little Miami.
