JPS reports installation of anti-theft system in Payne Land

The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) is reporting that it has completed the full implementation of the Residential Advanced Metering Infrastructure (RAMI) system, in Payne Land, St Andrew.

A release from the company said the old network was fully removed from the community over the weekend.

"This comes after a year and a half of working in the community, including offering house wiring assistance, operating a temporary office in the community and meeting with residents individually. Payne Land has almost 1,000 customers," the release said.

The energy company notes that the residents have been quite co-operative, willing to do their part to become regularised. JPS has set up a temporary office at the Haile Selassie High School in the community, to help members of the area who may need to consult with the organisation on matters related to getting connected, as some residents are still not connected.

The company is, however, working assiduously to ensure that all persons are connected in as short a time as possible.

"JPS will continue its drive to regularise the use of electrical power, as it ramps up its campaign to reduce losses in this area, in 2013," the company said.

Last year, JPS spent US$30 million fighting illegal abstraction of electricity.
