Higgler on assault charge remanded

A higgler who has denied throwing acid at her sister was remanded when she appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

Charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm is Corolyn Smith, 49, of Ebony Road, Kingston 11. She returns to court on January 23, when the matter will be mentioned for the complainant to appear in court.

In court, it was revealed that the complainant, who made a report to the Olympic Gardens Police Station, failed to seek medical attention as she had tended to herself.

Allegations are that on January 5, about 3:30 p.m., Smith and her sister got in an argument, where it is alleged that the corrosive substance was thrown on the sister.

It is alleged that the acid caught the complainant on her left hand and in her face.

The complainant reported to the police that the accused had made previous threats to her about damaging her with acid.

The court heard that the 43-year-old complainant went to a nearby shop after the incident to buy milk to soothe her burns, however, it is reported that she refused to seek medical assistance.

The matter was subsequently reported to the police and Smith was arrested.
