Carpenter before court for 2007 job

A carpenter was hauled before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday for failing to produce furniture ordered and partially paid for since 2007.

Charged with fraud is Derrick Haughton. He entered a not-guilty plea and offered the court an explanation.

According to Haughton, he and the complainant went into business in 2009, and a balance was still outstanding.

The court was told that $60,000 was paid over to Haughton in 2007 to make a cupboard for the complainant, however, she is yet to see the cupboard.

The complainant told the court, "Everytime I ask for the cupboard he gives me a next date."

Haughton replied, "Your Honour, the space is not ready ... I went and took some pictures of the place this month."

The senior resident magistrate told the accused that when he returns to court on February 28, the cupboard should be completed and installed to the complainant's satisfaction.

The accused was also told at that time he should have received his balance and everybody lives happily ever after.
