Cops probe if ...Pastor steals church chairs
Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

The police in St Catherine are probing a pastor after he is accused of destroying several items, and taking away several furniture from the church he is in charge of leading.

The police say they are investigating reports that members turned up to find the church with damaged appliances and furniture shortly before service was scheduled to begin yesterday.

The police say the members claim that the clergyman had also taken several chairs which are owned by the church. As a result, the scheduled service was not held.

Police say they are doing initial investigations, and might be seeking the pastor for a meeting shortly.

Some of the church members were clearly displeased with the alleged action of their pastor yesterday. "When we come here, we realise sey the eight chairs that him buy with the convention money was taken away," a church member told THE STAR.

The disgruntled members said that there has been discontent between them and the pastor following a meeting where they asked for accountability from the clergyman concerning some money. They said the man of the cloth failed to properly account for funds collected since New Year's Day.

The consensus of the members are that they need to worship, and the latest event is a direct hindrance to them. Attempts to call the clergyman proved futile yesterday.
