Veronica Campbell Brown World indoor champion Veronica Campbell Brown will not be competing on the indoor circuit, preferring to focus instead on the World Championships, set for Moscow in August. Campbell Brown, who successfully defended her 60m title at the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul last year, says she will be turning her attention to Moscow, where she will be defending her 200m world title and hoping to improve on her 100-metres silver-medal finish in Daegu in 2011. Speaking to her fans through her diary entry on the IAAF website, Campbell Brown, a seven-time Olympic medallist, also shared that she is quite pleased with the way her preparation has gone over the past month. "I spent the month focusing on my training and I must say, I was quite pleased with what I was able to accomplish. We are taking a rather gradual approach as I will not compete in this coming indoor season because my focus is on the IAAF World Championships in Moscow late summer," said Campbell Brown, who also took time to thank her fans for their support throughout the last year. The 30-year-old, who also won two years earlier in Doha, raced to a world-leading 7.01 clocking in Istanbul, becoming the first Jamaican to win consecutive 60m titles at the World Indoor Champion-ships and the second to win back-to-back titles at the event after Merlene Ottey, who won 200m gold at the 1989 and 1991 championships. "I want to thank all my supporters who took the time to read and journey with me throughout 2012. I wish for you and your loved ones a healthy and successful 2013 and ask for your continued support," Campbell Brown added. Campbell Brown won bronze in the 100m at the Olympic Games in London last year, before finishing outside the medals in the 200m. She also helped Jamaica to a national record and silver medal in the 4x100m. - A.L. |
