J'can wanted in Cayman expected to be extradited

A 36-year-old Jamaican, who is wanted by the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) in connection with a bank robbery which took place in the Cayman Islands last June, is expected to be extradited from Jamaica, after a judge issued a court order last week, according to www.caymannewsservice.com.

Ryan Edwards, who hails from the eastern parish of St Thomas, is wanted for the bank robbery, which took place at the Cayman National Bank (CNB), located at Buckingham Square, last June, in which an armed gang made off with hundreds of thousands of dollars in the daring daylight heist.

Evidence against Edwards was presented in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court which implicated him in the bank robbery, which resulted in the extradition order being made.

Edwards will be held in Jamaica until the extradition warrant is issued, where he will then be brought to Cayman and charged for his involvement in the heist, the article states.

It has been reported that sometime in August last year, Edwards was apprehended in St Thomas, after the police stopped two men in the parish parked inside a Toyota Altis motor vehicle. A search revealed large sums of cash and included US$5,000 ($465,000) and CI$35,000 ($3,945,900).

It was later revealed, following checks with the RCIPS, that several of the notes found in Edward's possession matched those stolen during the CNB robbery. Edwards became wanted after he fled the Cayman Islands to Jamaica by boat.
