As with most other entertainment genres, the growing field of stand-up comedy in Jamaica is dominated by male performers, who usually greatly outnumber their female counterparts on shows.

However, there's a dynamic trio of women performers who are gearing up to ensure that even if men outnumber women on the stage, the female view is loudly and proudly represented at this year's staging of Christmas Comedy Cook-up.

They are broadcaster and entertainment personality Miss Kitty, local actress/comedian Kathy Grant and Canadian comic sensation Keesha Brownie.

Miss Kitty, who will do duties as co-host for the annual comedy fiesta, is a colourful performer who's famous especially for her irreverent and unapologetic defence of plus-sized women.

Kathy Grant, who is a full-time teacher and part-time actress/comedian, has played numerous roles over the five seasons of the popular Ity and Fancy Cat show but is most remembered for her portrayal of the inflexible country helper 'Miss Jennifer', who made the line 'tan deh deh' a popular phrase.

Kathy and Miss Kitty will be joined by Keesha Brownie, the hottest new thing on the Canadian comedic circuit, who's creating waves with her hilarious new video Got Brownie. A resident of Brampton, Ontario, Keesha is a Canadian of Jamaican parents and is looking forward to her first appearance on the Jamaican stage.

Christmas Comedy Cook-up takes place at the Wyndham Kingston hotel on Boxing Day, Wednesday, December 26. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. with a pre-show interaction and giveaways preceding the start at 7 p.m. sharp. Information line is 408-4411.
