Artistes will face off tag-team style

Contenders will not just be clashing onstage at this year's Sting, they will also be competing in an actual boxing ring for championship belts.

Although the clash fixtures have been uncertain for sometime, one of the Sting organisers and Downsound Records' CEO, Joe Bogdanovich, confirmed yesterday that there will be a tag-team clash inside a boxing ring with two sets of artistes competing for championship boxing belts. On one team, Merciless and Tony Matterhorn will go up against KipRich and Ninja Man.

"It's a tag-team clash ... when certain things happen, they tag the other," he said.

He noted that the contenders will also be able to call on one artiste of their choice to render assistance.

Bogdanovich also confirmed Macka Diamond's participation in a clash, but they were uncertainties about her opponent. This comes after Macka Diamond said she is willing to pay Spice to clash with her at her birthday party in January, if her monetary demands are not met by Sting promoters.

"That's just a small segment of the show. This year, Sting is really dynamic. There's a lot of good entertainment and it is diverse," he told THE WEEKEND STAR.

When asked if there will be clashes with any other big names, Bogdanovich said, "we have a few surprises." However, he was tight-lipped about the names.

But according to him, the championship belts and boxing ring are not just gimmicks.

"It's about stage presence, it's more like a show. You have to deliver the goods, it's not just dressing people up. We are trying to transform the dancehall to where it was a while back," Bogdanovich said.

These new elements, says Bogdanovich, will be welcomed by the patrons.

"I think they are going to love it and talk about it for weeks afterwards. They love clashes. It (Sting) is gonna be witty. It's gonna be theatrical. It will be well-produced," he said.
