'Problem Child' remanded

A man accused of brutally stabbing a 57-year-old street sweeper was remanded in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

Everton Taylor, from Kingston, is charged with wounding with intent.

The court heard that Taylor, who also goes by the names 'Problem' or 'Problem Child', is yet to go on an identification parade, however, the complainant has given a statement implicating him as her attacker.

The prosecution said the complainant in her statement said she knows several of Taylor's relatives.

Resident Magistrate Georgiana Fraser has ordered that the investigating officer make checks to verify the complainant's statement. Taylor returns to court on December 20, when his attorney, C.J. Mitchell, is to make a bail application.

It is alleged that on the day of the incident, the woman was stabbed while sweeping on Hagley Park Road in Kingston. The court heard she was stabbed in her neck, head and face.

It is reported that the complainant ran to her nearby home where she was assisted to the Kingston Public Hospital.

RM Fraser denied Taylor's bail on the grounds that the attacks were brutal.

In addition, the RM said the complainant indicated that she saw her attacker and knows his family.
