Cop on corruption rap offered bail

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

A senior policeman who is being accused of issuing death threats to a policewoman with whom he shared a relationship, was offered $1,000,000 on corruption charges.

He is police inspector Doderick Henry, of a Corporate Area address.

When Henry appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court, he pleaded not guilty.

Defence attorney-at-law Tom Tavares-Finson told the court his client has a 38-year history with the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

He said that there are holes in the prosecution's case and that the file needs to be completed, however, his client needs bail to prove his innocence. "We are aware of the seriousness of the allegation, but my client needs to be able to get bail. However, the court can put conditions to make him be aware of the seriousness of the offence," Tavares-Finson said.

Clerk of the Court Nicole Kellier opposed bail on condition that the senior crime fighter may carry out his threats.

Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green granted bail on condition that Henry report to the Portmore Police Station daily. He is also on curfew between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. daily and should not contact the complainants in anyway.

He is to reappear in court on February 19 next year, by which time the Crown is expected to complete the file. Henry had been charged with four counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice following a ruling from the director of public prosecutions.

He was charged with corruption after he allegedly threatened a woman with whom he has a case. The court was told that he reportedly uttered threats by way of a cellular phone that he was going to kill her.

It was revealed that the boyfriend of the woman was also threatened.
