Robinson looks forward to Reggae Boyz audition |

Theo Robinson Derby counter striker Theo Robinson would relish the chance to play for Jamaica's Reggae Boyz, should he be selected by national head coach Theodore Whitmore. Robinson was one of eight overseas-based players of Jamaican heritage that made themselves eligible for selection to the country's national team, following a recent scouting mission led by Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) president Horace Burrell, Whitmore and assistant coach Alfredo Montesso. Robinson is expected to be given his chance ahead of February's final round of CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers, where the Reggae Boyz will look to book a ticket to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. "I would love to get involved in helping them in qualification," the 23-year-old told UK publication Derby Telegraph (thisisderbyshire.co.uk). "If the call comes, I would be very honoured to play for my country. excited "I have spoken to my mum and my grandad and they are excited about the possibility," Robinson said. The forward has hit the net nine times, in 19 appearances for Derby, former club of Reggae Boy striker Deon Burton, this season. The forward was born in Birmingham, England, but is eligible through his grandparents. His grandfather, Ezekiel, still lives in Jamaica. The Reggae Boyz will open the hexagonal round of the qualifiers against Mexico on February 6 at the Azteca Stadium, and also have fixtures against United States, Costa Rica, Honduras, and Panama. |
