Early Christmas comes in Westmoreland |

Eager children escort Santa to the Santa Village where he distributed gifts to the children at the Digicel Christmas Treat held at Savanna-la-Mar last Saturday. - Contributed "Christmas came early here in Westmoreland. It was good that Digicel gave the children gifts, food and an opportunity to enjoy themselves." This was expressed by Westmoreland resident Kedean Clarke, as she watched her children enjoying the bounce-a-about at the Digicel Christmas treat, held at Independence Park, Savanna-la-Mar, last Saturday. The treat, which debuted in Portland, on November 24, saw more than 800 Westmoreland children and their parents benefiting from gifts, giveaways and entertainment. The biggest hit of the day was Santa and the Santa Village. As Santa made his way through the crowd, scores of children ran to him with enthusiasm and excitement to escort him to the Santa Village where he distributed gifts. Along with receiving gifts, the children also had an opportunity to take a photo with Santa. competition Entertainment included a football-juggling competition, which Westmoreland resident, Lester Spence, dominated. Spence juggled the football 42 times to earn himself the top spot in the adult category. Joining Spence was 11-year-old forward of Little London High School, Dwayne Hasely, who juggled 23 times to come out on top in the children's category. Sharing in the taste of victory were Rosemarie McDonald and Tricia Plummer who jumped their way to victory in the 'crocus bag' competition for children. With Christmas only a few weeks away, Digicel is already planning its third stop in Ocho Rios this Saturday. "We are happy that Portland and Westmoreland residents welcomed us in their communities and we are excited to say 2,000 children and their parents have, so far, been treated to gifts and exciting entertainment. We are looking forward to bringing even more joy as we continue to share smiles with Jamaica," expressed Tahnida Nunes, Digicel's sponsorship manager. |
