Human Rights Day concert in the park

DJ Nicholas - Contributed

Energetic gospel performer DJ Nicholas will be the main act at 'Concert in the Park' to be hosted by the Jamaica Coalition for a Healthy Society in commemoration of International Human Rights Day on Monday, December 10.

Beginning at 5 p.m. at Emancipation Park in New Kingston, DJ Nicholas will be among an impressive line-up of performers at the free concert, which will include Dunamis; the 100-voice choir from Emmanuel Apostolic Church; the Children's Choir of Hope Gospel Assembly, and Praise Academy. The main speakers will be US-based international human rights lawyer, Susan Yoshihara, and a Jamaican residing in the UK, Kwabena Peat, who will present his story of how his rights of freedom of conscience and employment have been destroyed.

Under the theme 'Celebrating God: The Giver of Rights', the concert will be an extension of an international conference: Human Rights, International Law and the Family, to be hosted by both the Jamaica Coalition for a Healthy Society and the Lawyers' Christian Fellowship, at the Jamaica Conference Centre, on Saturday, December 8, beginning at 8 a.m.

At the 'Concert in the Park' on International Human Rights Day, participants will be challenged to sign the Kingston Declaration, which is a formal statement outlining the Judeo-Christian bases for valid universal rights and ideals for marriage and the natural family, necessary for a healthy society.

The Jamaica Coalition for a Healthy Society is a Christian non-profit organisation which was formed in January, 2012. In this short time, JCHS has earned its reputation as a watchdog for Christian principles on marriage, sex and the family, through a variety of activities and projects.
