Newly elected Jamaica Athletic Adminis-trative Association (JAAA) executive Michael Frater has vowed to turn immediate attention to the plight of athlete health care, as third vice-president of the newly elected Dr Warren Blake slate.

Frater became the first active athlete to be selected for a major post on the executive, with the biggest margin of victory on the night. Frater was the only candidate to tally over 200 votes, a big 204-76 win over Holmwood Technical Vice-Principal Edward Hector.

Frater has promised to focus on solid representation for the athletes.

"I will definitely make a true representation for the athletes. I know what the athletes want and the most important thing now is to get the medical and pension fund started. The most expensive thing for an athlete has to do with their medical expenses and it can ruin your career. We all know the cost of doing surgery," said Frater.

The sprinter also confirmed that he has no intention of retiring from active competition.

"No, I am a competitor and this will not stop me from being competitive, you all know I love challenges and I thrive on challenge, because all my career I have had to face challenges, I know how to deal with them. People always ask me how I am able to make national teams when it does not look possible, I tell them that I thrive on this," he continued.

The athlete also claimed to have heard of no issues with his election to the new post and tenure at the MVP Track Club.

"I do not know anything of that sort as nobody has said anything to me about that. If that was so coach Francis would have said something to me and as far as I know I am still a member of the MVP Track Club," he said.
