Concern about St Catherine teens smoking ganja
Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

A number of parents and guardians in St Catherine said that they are concern about their teenage boys smoking ganja.

"I saw my son sitting in his uniform at the back of the house with smoke coming from his mouth. When mi check it, is ganja him smoking," Marsha Wheeler, a mother said.

The practice of schoolboys involvement in the ganja business is a cause for concern.

"Some of these boys do it just to get accepted by their peers and while it's mostly boys, girls are also involved," one distraught mother said.

David Gordon of the St Catherine branch of the National Council on Drug Abuse, said he is very concerned about the practice. He said that he has counselled many children involved in the smoking of marijuana and it is alarming the amount of children doing it.

Several children reportedly agreed that wanting to be a part of the "thing" is a contributing factor to them smoking the drug.

Meanwhile, the police said that its members are aware of the practice and noted that it is a crime for anyone to smoke ganja.

The Star has also seen a number of boys taken before the courts on ganja charges.
