The St Ann police have in custody the driver of a gas truck that overturned and killed an elderly woman along the lonely Steerfield main road in the parish yesterday morning.

Dead is 54-year-old cook Jennifer Forbes of Steerfield, St Ann.

According to reports, Forbes was walking along the Steerfield road at approximately 10 a.m. when the tail end of the tanker, which was being driven towards Kingston by a Gas Pro contractor, dislodged and fell on her.

The name of the truck driver is being withheld pending further investigation.

An eyewitness told our news team that Forbes was dragged several metres before being pinned under the trailer.

The eyewitness also said, "The driver of the truck was speeding coming around the bend and di trailer got out of control and hit the woman that was walking. Mi couldn't believe and the saddest thing is that him not even know that somebody got pinned under the vehicle. He sat in shock in the truck head before hopping out to the shock of his life."

THE STAR understands that fire personnel were summoned to the scene as a precaution as the truck was allegedly filled with gasoline.

The St Ann police confirmed the accident and told THE STAR that the driver is currently being questioned and investigations are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
