The police have removed yet another illegal firearm and ammunition from the streets after the weapon was confiscated from a gunman who was a passenger on a bus in Half-Way Tree square recently, THE STAR has learnt.

Information reaching our news team is that on Monday at 12:30 p.m., a man was taken from a bus in Half-Way Tree and an illegal gun which was in his possession was seized by police personnel who had stopped the vehicle.

The identification of the man arrested, THE STAR gathered, is being withheld pending further investigation.

A passenger on the bus with whom our news team spoke gave us this account.

The alleged eyewitness said, "Di yute deh pan di bus and when him see di police dem him start act funny ... Him never get the chance to disarm himself cause the police come in like dem get info bout di bus or something ... Only thing mi notice say the policeman hold him and start search and dem find the gun and a portion a bullet ... dem put him ina a jeep and carry him weh ... Nuff people deh deh and see wah gwan."

When contacted, Head of the St Andrew Central Police, Senior Superintendent (SSP) Derrick Knight, confirmed the incident and refuted claims that it was a plain-clothes police who apprehended di gunman.

Mr Knight told THE STAR, "Is not really a plain-clothes officer per se ... It was actually a stop and search effort and that was when the man was held. The police took from him a Glock pistol loaded with 34 rounds and another magazine containing 9 rounds, totalling 43 rounds."

THE STAR gathered that the man who remains in lock-up will be summoned to the Gun Court later this month.
