Man on suspended sentence to face the courts

A man who is on a one-year suspended sentence was hauled before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday on allegations that he broke into a house.

Charged with housebreaking and larceny is Cleon Francis who was remanded.

He is to return to court on November 12 when the matter will be mentioned as the file is incomplete. Allegations are that on the day in question, the accused was seen running from the complainant's home with a black bag.

It is alleged that the complainant later made checks in her room and realised that her two playstations were missing.

It is also reported that the female complainant saw a crowbar at her door.

The matter was subsequently reported to the police and Francis was arrested.

The accused who told the court that he knows nothing about the charges also said that the house that he is charged for breaking into is his grandmother's house. "Your Honour, dat house is my gandmother's house and di woman (the complainant) is living there because I meet her on di road and she didn't have anywhere to live and I give her a place to stay," Francis said.

However, the accused later told the court that he is no longer living at the house. Francis told the court that he is living elsewhere because he was given a suspended sentence in a matter involving the same female complainant.
