Rule change won't hurt Girls

Jamaica's Sunshine Girls captain Nadine does not believe the recent rule changes for the World Fast5 Netball Series will have any impact on the team's chances of winning the competition.

"We got a chance to practise the rules back home and strategise, work on what we need to do," Bryan told The New Zealand Herald.

In fact, the 35-year-old was quick to point out that the changes were in fact view favourably by the Girls and expressing confidence that they would have a good showing at the three-day World Fast5 Netball Series in Auckland, New Zealand.

"We really do like the changes, and doing things a little differently when we've played it back home, there's been a lot of stuff we've done that are really exciting," she said.

Eye-catching

As part of the festival feel of the tournament, competing teams have been encouraged to break from their traditional uniforms for the event, something Jamaica have keenly grasped hold of in previous years. Bryan is promising this year's looks will be eye-catching.

"One of [our] uniforms wasn't completed ... so we only have one of the new uniforms, but we've come up with something else," Bryan added.

The Oberon Pitterson-coached Jamaicans, who are ranked fourth in the world, were down to face the hosts at 11:30 last night. The Sunshine Girls were scheduled to close off the day's play against Malawi at 1:45 a.m.

The Jamaicans are one of the few teams in Auckland that have had a chance to try the new rules and the more free-flowing, creative style of game is expected to favour them.

Only the top six teams in the world are down to contest the championships. The semi-finals of the competition will be played tomorrow with the final set for Sunday.
