Noon It Is will not be beaten
Jimmie, STAR Racing Writer

UNBEATEN derby winner TYPEWRITER faces his first real test among older horses tomorrow when he takes on United States-bred NOON IT IS in an open allowance at 1300 metres.

Spencer Chung's derby conqueror has not raced since July 7 when he outbattled the filly STAR FLYER and held off UNCLE DONNY to land the St Leger at 10 furlongs.

However, he has been blazing the exercise track in the mornings, clocking back-to-back 59.4s over five furlongs on the round course.

NOON IT IS has been doing the rounds between restricted stakes and grade one in 11 starts this year, winning six races and competing against the best sprinters and middle distance runners in the land.

Widely expected to complete a double a week and a half ago, she tired close home after having to do the dirty work of chasing MR SKILL from the gate in a torrid five-and-a -half furlong sprint.

Carrying top weight of 57.0 kilos, the effort took its toll on NOON IT IS and her old rival, PALACE GOLD, who she had beaten in three previous starts this season, closed for the kill and won in 1:05.0.

NOON IT IS returns with 57.0 kilos tomorrow but she will be more comfortable in what will be an easier pace.

As opposed to chasing MR SKILL in splits of 23.0 and 45.3 down the backstretch and into the lane, jockey Omar Walker will be able to keep the three-year-old filly on the bridle as long as he wants before unleashing her.

Though TYPEWRITER has been looking really flashy at exercise, he has never faced the type of sprint pace NOON IT IS has been privy to, especially against the likes of his own stablemate, Horse of the Year SAINT CECELIA, who beat her by three lengths at five and a half furlongs on August 18.

TYPEWRITER is a tough customer and Chung has done all he can at exercise to have him razor sharp. However, NOON IT IS is a couple steps up from the local-bred three-year-olds he faced in his five romps and should snap his unbeaten run.

Walker should also land the day's feature, the 1300-metre Cecil C Charlton Trophy, with ROLEX, who's hunting back-to-back wins after staving off WINCHESTER at 1100 metres on October 13.

WINCHESTER returns for another crack at out-of-class ROLEX who returns off a claim after dropping class last time out. However, Walker was always in control last time out though ROLEX had only won by a half length.
