A five-bedroom house located on Gardenia Avenue, in Mona, St Andrew, was damaged by fire yesterday after a standby generator on the premises exploded.

Information gathered by THE STAR is that sometime after 7 p.m., a generator exploded on the property resulting in the fire.

It is reported that three units from York Park, Half-Way Tree, and Rollington Town fire stations put out the blaze.

THE STAR understands that no one was hurt in the blaze and investigations are ongoing.

Member of Parliament for Eastern St Andrew Eastern, Andre Hylton, was quick on the location and gave his support. "From what I understand, the owner put too much fuel in the generator and it exploded, but no one was hurt as far as I understand," the MP said.

When THE STAR arrived on the scene, scores of residents were seen observing the firefighters extinguishing the blaze.

Before the firefighters had arrived, it is reported that several helpful residents were assisting with buckets and other large containers to put out the blaze.
