SHELDON WILLIAMS, Staff Reporter
A female driver of a Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) bus that travels the Half-Way Tree to Portmore route is now reportedly hospitalised after she was gun butted by gunmen who robbed the public passenger bus last night. THE STAR understands that the driver was taken to hospital by the police after she sustained injuries from being pistol whipped by gunmen who boarded the bus on Hagley Park Road. Corporate Communications Man-ager of the JUTC, Reginald Allen, admitted that he did not have all the details at the time of the interview but assured our news team that an investigation had been launched. "One of our bus drivers got held up at gunpoint and was robbed, and was injured," he said. He added, "It is something we are faced with periodically, it doesn't happen very often, but it does happen." Allen continued, "Whenever these incidents happen, they are thoroughly investigated, both internally and externally, because we work very closely with the police." Up to press time last night, the severity of the driver's injuries was unknown. Constabulary Communication Network confirmed that the police are aware of the incident but informed our news team that no other information could be divulged at the time of inquiry. The Hunts Bay police are investigating. |
