Men accused of robbing wholesale

Two men accused of breaking into a wholesale and removing several items had the matter sent to trial when they appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.

They are Robert Young and Alwayne Clarke, both from Corporate Area addresses.

Both men pleaded not guilty to charges of breaking and entering the wholesale and stealing a quantity of grocery.

The court heard that on the day in question at approximately 5:30 a.m., both men were held by the police after they were seen removing the items.

These items included packs and cases of frosted flakes, oats, corned beef, Swizzle, Tastee cheese, Betty condensed milk, kerosene oil, rice and scandal bags.

In offering the court an explanation, Young said he was walking past and saw some items and simply picked up a crate.

He told the judge, "Miss Your Honour, I was coming from a party and mi stop and take up the crate ... mi never see nuh corn beef, a mussi him (Clarke) did a deal with that."

Clarke countered and said, "I was nowhere near there, Your Honour, a him (Young) did get hold with the goods, I was held by the police while I was walking down Constant Spring Road."

The arresting officer told the court that Young was caught with some of the goods while Clarke was held near the incident under suspicion that he was involved.

RM Lorna Shelly-Williams after hearing enough back and forth explanation from the two accused made fingerprint orders for both men.

They were remanded and should return to court on October 2 for trial.
