$250,000 bail for woman on fraud charge

Bail was offered in the sum of $250,000 for a woman accused of fraud when she appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's (RM) Court on Friday.

Charged with obtaining money by false pretence and fraudulent conversion, is 47-year-old Marva Johnson who maintained her innocence.

The court heard that Johnson told the complainant she had a friend that could get him a US visa and she was entrusted with a large sum of money which included local and foreign currencies.

RM Lorna Shelly-Williams offered Johnson bail with one or two sureties.

She is to report to the Spanish Town police on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Another condition of her bail is that she surrenders all travel documents and a stop order was also placed at all ports.

Johnson is to return to court on November 16, when the matter will again be mentioned.
