Christopher Thomas, STAR Writer WESTERN BUREAU: A Trelawny-based construction worker who reportedly pretended to be a policeman and pulled over a motorist before his ruse was discovered was offered $200,000 bail in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court last Thursday. Rohan Morgan, who is 30-year-old and is of Sherwood Content in Trelawny, is charged with impersonating a police officer. The allegations are that on October 9, at approximately 6 p.m., Morgan was at the intersection of Harbour Street and Market Street, in Montego Bay, when he instructed a motorist to pull over on the side of the road. Morgan then identified himself as a police officer and requested to see the driver's documents. incident While this was going on, a policeman on patrol came over to investigate the incident and asked Morgan for identification to prove he was a cop. Morgan failed to produce the requested document and he was arrested and charged. In court last Thursday, attorney-at-law Jacqueline Minto, who represents Morgan, made a successful bail application for her client. "He (Morgan) has no previous convictions. If offered bail, he could report to the Clark's Town Police Station," Minto suggested to Resident Magistrate Sandria Wong-Small. Meanwhile, the prosecution told the court that a corroborating officer's statement was still outstanding from the case file and asked for a new mention date to update the file. "The matter will be mentioned on December 4. Bail is offered in the sum of $200,000, and up to three persons can bail you," RM Wong-Small told Morgan. "As a condition of your bail, you will report to the Clark's Town Police Station every Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.," the RM told Morgan. "You will surrender your fingerprints to the police when you have taken up your bail. You will return to court on December 4." |
