Jamaica College (JC), for the first time in recent history, closed out the preliminary round of the premier urban area senior schoolboy football competition with a perfect record after yesterday, notching their eighth consecutive victory after getting by Mona High 3-0 in their Group B Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel Manning Cup match yesterday, at the Dark Blues grounds.

JC, which made seven changes to its regular starting 11, got their goals by way of strikes from Jason Wint (54th), Steffan Logan (68th) and an own goal from Mona's Micaldo Millwood in the 73rd minute.

Maximum points

The win moved JC to 24 points from eight games, making them the only team in this year's competition to end the first round with maximum points. JC and second-place Camperdown (14 points) had already secured their passage to the second round, which commences on the 26th of this month prior to yesterday's ultimate round of games in the group. Mona lies at the foot of the five-team table with one point.

The Alfred Henry-conditioned JC, which captured the triple (Manning Cup, Walker Cup and Olivier Shield) in 2010, has also booked its place in the Walker Cup with action set to start next week Friday.

In the group's other match, St Jago defeated Waterford 4-1 to leapfrog them up to third on eight points. Waterford drops to fourth on seven points.

"It was the objective to finish the zone in front and try and win as many games as possible, and we have achieved it," JC's assistant coach Delroy Brown said. "It doesn't really mean much, because it is the preliminary round and we have a perfect record, but the real work starts in the second round and the Walker Cup," he added.

Despite looking slightly better than the team that lost 4-1 to JC in the first leg, Mona never posed a serious threat to their opponent's goal.
