Man takes limes to court for luck
Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

There was an outburst of laughter in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday after a complainant spilled a number of green limes from his pockets while his matter was being mentioned.

"Sir, what do you have in your pocket? Are you alright?" Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green asked.

"Your Honour, a green lime ma'am. Mi use it fi good luck. Mi use dem all di time," the man replied, while several limes fell.

"Are those to work on me, Sir? Yesterday, a man was here with garlic," the RM continued, while snickers could be heard in the court.

The man was at court in a case of assault following a physical confrontation during which he suffered injuries to his elbow.

The accused, Lenoy Newell, who pleaded guilty was ordered to pay $30,000 to the complainant.

A total of $19,000 was paid over in court. Newell's bail was extended to November 20 when the matter will return to court.

Many left saying the green limes seemed to have worked in the complainant's favour.
