Bolt too pricey

... World Championship organisers exclude world's fastest man from promotional video for excessive fee

World's fastest man Usain Bolt will not be a part of a promotional video for the 2013 World Athletics Championships in Moscow, after the organisers claimed the athlete wanted too much money.

"Usain Bolt's representatives got in touch with us about including the Jamaican sprinter in a promotional video. But when they named their price, we decided that we have enough of our own talented athletes who could advertise the competition," the head of sport department at Moscow's City Council, Aleksandr Polinsky, told the RIA news agency.

The sprinter featured heavily in the promotional campaign for the 2011 Daegu World Champ- ionships, where despite not being at his best, claimed two gold medals in the 200m and 4x100m relay.

Since then, however, the world record holder in both the 100m, (9.58), and 200m (19.19) has gone on to enhance his reputation, claiming three gold medals at this summer's London Olympic Games. The feat added to Bolt's previous impressive feat at the previous Olympic Games, 2008 in Beijing, where he claimed three gold medals in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay. Such exploits have made the sprinter one of the most in-demand athletes on the face of the planet.

Organisers also said yesterday that the event's overall prize fund would reach $7.2 million, with world record breakers pocketing an additional $50,000.

The World Athletics Championships will be held at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium from August 10 to 18, 2013.
