Tastee reality weekend unfolds in Montego Bay

Tastee Talent Trail host, Pepita.

While Kingston and St Andrew and its environs came under heavy rainfall Friday night going into Saturday morning, the second city was spared, thus ensuring that the elimination round of the Reality Weekend of the Tastee Talent Trail was able to take place.

The contestants from Kingston, St Thomas, St Catherine, St Mary and May Pen headed out from Cross Roads Friday morning to meet up with those from the western section mainly; St Elizabeth, Manchester, St James and St Ann, at the Toby's Inn Resort in Montego Bay.

Upon arrival, the contestants were met by host Pepita who welcomed them to the resort and gave them an overview of the weekend's activities. After settling into their rooms, it was all business as a number of shoots were arranged, aimed at bringing each contestant to their television audience on a more intimate basis.

The contestants enjoyed the lush property to its fullest, the swimming pool was extensively used, so too was the pool table in the games area, bringing much enjoyment to those who were holding a pool cue in their hands for the first time.

Come Saturday morning, with news that other areas of the island were experiencing, heavy downpour of rain, the producers of the Talent Trail decided to press ahead with the show which was slated for mid afternoon at the Tastee Depot, Barnett Street. No doubt, the producers were banking on the fact that in its 33 years, the Tastee Talent Trail has only been rained out once.

The show started roughly an hour late, this because of technical glitches which were experienced during the 'set-up' phase. Once these were ironed out and things got going, the performers had two opportunities to impress judges Alaine Laughton, Amelia Sewell and Oral Tracey, with a view to avoiding being eliminated. Singers, deejays, singjays and guitar-playing singers gave it their all.

At the end of a near two-hour presentation, the contestants who are vying for the $1-million first prize at the December finals, as well as a $500,000 second prize and a $150,000 third prize, were advised who will go to the semi-finals on November 22, 2012. Watch TVJ for the results.

The television series begins on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 8:30 p.m., on TVJ, and is made up of 11 episodes spanning auditions, the Quest, The Reality Weekend, semi-finals, and grand finals.
