Winsome Heron - Good to be carrying out God's work

Reverend Winsome Heron - George Henry

GEORGE HENRY, STAR Writer

The Reverend Winsome Heron has been a born-again Christian since 1979. In 2000, she was given the task of pastoring the Jericho Full Truth Church of God Deliverance Centre at Grantham in Clarendon.

Despite the occasional ups and downs of ministry, Heron bragged that it was good to be a leader and carrying out her godly duties while preparing souls for the imminent return of the Lord.

"It is very good, but there are times when you have the ups and downs. However, I think it is the best choice I could have ever made and it is the best thing that has ever happened to me - that of being a child of the King," said Heron.

Her response to challenges as a Christian and as a pastor is to apply prayer and fasting to situations. She also responds by communicating with other strong Christians who assist in lifting her spirits, but according to the pastor, it is important that as people of God that we try also to lift our spirits.

"I help myself through prayer and fasting, reading of the scriptures, singing inspirational songs, and all these help to lift my spirits whenever challenges come about," said Heron.

The female pastor said it was essential that children of God read and study the Bible. She added that when this is done, the Christian gets power to do the will of God and is better able to stand against the wiles of the Devil.

"It is through the word that you get power. If you do not know the word of God, I do not believe you can successfully live a Christian life, because it is the word that really helps you to live a good life for God. If I do not know the word, if I do not know the scriptures, then I will do just about any and everything," explained the church leader.

Heron, who also had an explanation for the importance of prayer and fasting, said these two elements are key to the Christian believer. She pointed out that fasting gives the believer strength, especially in times of trouble.

Heron's word for Jamaica is that people should come to their senses and realise the serious time in which we are living. She wants all parents to try as best as possible to instil Christian principles in their children.

"They are our future men and women, and if we allow them to get away from us, we will not be able to capture them back. So let us do our best to instil in them the principles and values of Christ. Let them feel good about themselves," begged Heron, whose favourite scripture is Philippians Chapter 4, and favourite song is 'He left the splendour of Heaven, knowing His destiny.
