A Facebook page, tributes in song from at least two local artistes, and an ongoing court battle is the latest in the much publicised 27-year-old Kay-Ann Lamont case.

On September 1, an eight months pregnant Lamont was shot twice in the head during an incident with a policeman in Yallahs, St Thomas.

Lamont's two other sisters were also reportedly injured in the incident.

Rising singjay Vybrant has recorded a song in tribute for Lamont because he said, they grew up together in the same community.

Reggae artiste Anthony B has also released a song titled Too Hard Now condemning the incident.

Also, a Facebook page created for Lamont has been buzzing with comments since its inception, the page, called 'Justice for Kay-Ann Lamont', has a photograph of the slain woman and a statement pleading for justice. The statement reads, "My name is Kay-Ann Lamont and I was killed on 9-01-2012 in Yallahs by the police because I cursed in public, I was eight months pregnant, please seek justice for for me and my baby."

soul rest in peace

Jerline Johnson wrote on the page, "Didn't do nothing to deserved a death like this Kay-Ann, may your soul rest in peace," she said.

Orando Wilson said, "Jah know, it is like we have to go put all pregnant woman in a safety box until di baby ready fi cum out," Wilson said..

Also, Marsha McKenzie-Williams wrote, "Too often these senseless killings are taking place and little by little our human rights are taken away from us. What has happened to freedom of speech, innocent until proven guilty n our basic fundamental right to life? This was what our forefathers fought for and now it seems all these are being taken away! Let us as a nation rise up, let our voices be heard and fight injustices and lawlessness in our nation.

Meanwhile, the policeman who has been accused of the killing was denied bail in the Home Circuit Court last Wednesday.

The accused, 33-year-old Corporal Dwayne Smart, was refused bail on the grounds that the court was told that the cop pointed his gun on one of his colleagues who tried to restrain him.

The court also heard that the corporal was persistent even though he was warned against the treatment of the pregnant woman.

The matter is scheduled to be mentioned in court on October 12.

Lamont will be laid to rest this Sunday.
