Jamaica College's assistant coach, Delroy Brown, believes his team is in a comfortable position after yesterday's fourth consecutive win in Group B of the ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel Manning Cup when they stopped Mona High 4-1 at the latter's playing field, to complete a clean sweep of the opening round. Despite not being at their fluent best, the 21-time Manning Cup champions secured the win on the back of a brace from Junior Flemmings (78th and 82th) to go with goals from Raffique Bryon (4th) and Tevin Brown (16th). Mona's first goal of the competition was scored by Dane Davis in the 70th minute. In the group's other match, Waterford clipped St Jago 1-0 to leapfrog their opponents for third place, with six points. JC lead the group with 12 points, followed by Camperdown (seven), St Jago (four) and Mona (zero). "It is a comfortable position to be in, because we have won all of our opening-round matches," Brown said. "We are not going to be complacent, as I am sure the other teams are going to be coming and trying to take points from JC, but we are comfortable right now. We must get stronger and we are going to get stronger," he added. improvements In spite of suffering a fourth-successive defeat, Mona's coach Junior Francis was pleased with the improvements shown by his young charges, and is promising a few surprises in the second round. JC got off to the perfect start, finding the back of the net in the fourth minute when the towering Bryon headed in a left-sided corner by Kevin Blackwood. The 2010 champions made it 2-0 in the 16th minute when Brown arrived late in the box to expertly head in a squared delivery from the left flank by Albert Aarons. The Alfred Henry-coached JC appeared to have taken their foot off the gas in the second half, as Mona grew in stature, which resulted in them pulling back a goal in the 70th minute. Substitute Jaw-Hoy Buckley's pinpoint accurate cross from the right wing was headed in by an unmarked Dane Davis on the back post. JC star player Flemmings was kept quiet by Kevaughn Christopher until the 78th minute when he broke free and gained possession of a ball played over the top of the Mona defence. Flemmings then maintained his composure to lob Mona's keeper Jevon Williams. Flemmings notched his fourth goal of the season in the 82nd minute when he once again latched on to a long ball before dismissing his marker and slotting pass Williams.
