Leighton Levy, STAR Writer The Jamaican suspect apprehended on Sunday in connection with a double murder committed last week in St Maarten is to appear before court today as investigations into the case continue. The suspect, who is yet to be charged, is to appear before a judge who will determine if the arrest was properly executed and if there are sufficient grounds to keep him in pretrial detention. bodies discovered The suspect was picked up early Sunday morning following the discovery of the bodies of 53-year-old Michael William King and his 57-year-old wife Thelma at a house they owned at the Ocean Club Resort in an area of the island known as Cupecoy. THE STAR has obtained the name of the man, M.K.J, a 29-year-old security guard, who was employed by a security firm Checkmate Security. The STAR yesterday spoke with the owner of the company Michael Kuiperi, who declined to comment on the situation stating that the police have asked him not to reveal any information about the suspect. Investigators said the suspect was not being fully cooperative, refusing to answer some questions during interrogation. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sarah Wescott Williams praised the police for their outstanding work in apprehending the suspect so quickly after the murders were discovered. Sources, however, told THE STAR that the police may be looking for another suspect in the case. This suspect is believed to be a Jamaican teenager. |
