An 80th-minute header from midfielder Steffan Logan guided Jamaica College (JC) to a 1-0 win over Camperdown in their top-of-the-table Group B clash at Bellevue Lands yesterday.

JC, in winning, recorded their first outing, while Camperdown, who clipped Waterford 1-0 in their first match, were losing for the first time.

Both teams shared much of the possession in the first half with JC depending on national Under-17 forward Junior Flemming and his strike partner Raffique Bryan to get a crucial go ahead goal.

The pair was, however, never allowed to settle by Camperdown's feisty defence line, which was marshalled by the outstanding Najai Gordon and Akeem Dawson.

It was much of the same in the second half, with Camperdown goalkeeper Rainford Howell also getting into the mix with some good reflex saves.

JC, however, did not relent in their pursuits and with time running out Logan came up big.

Lurking at the far post, he was the recipient of a square and with Howell in his way he headed powerfully in the roof of the net.

JC assistant coach Delroy Brown was pleased with the result, but had concerns.

"It is good to always start with a win, but in general it was kind of a flat performance based on our plans heading into the game," he said.

"But I guess first-match nerves and jitters could have been a factor."

Camperdown coach, Christopher Bender, in the meantime, thought his team should have at least left with a point.

"We started out well and played with a lot of desire and purpose," he said.

"But somewhere in the middle of the game JC took over and we never really fought as well.

"But, having said that, we should have left with at least a point, and it's unfortunate that we did not."

Meanwhile, the group's other match-up between Mona and Waterford at Mona saw the visitors winning 6-0.
