Man on ganja charge to be deported
A Jamaican national who pleaded guilty after accepting a 14-pound (6.36 kilograms) Federal Express marijuana shipment last year in the United States is to be deported.

According to a report in the Buffalo News, 42-year-old Ian A. Bell was convicted of third-degree criminal possession of marijuana.

On Monday, Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas placed Bell on five years of probation.

At the sentencing, Bell's attorney said that he could be deported at any moment in the wake of his felony conviction.

Reports were that Bell was arrested on March 4, 2011, after he signed for the box.

THE STAR understands that drug-sniffing dogs at Buffalo Niagara International Airport detected the shipment from California.

The police also seized US$1,170 (J$105,300) in cash.
