Petrojam and NCB win business house football titles |

Petrojam won 4-2 from the spot.- Contributed Defending champion Petrojam won their third straight Western Sports-sponsored Division One Business House Football title, when they defeated former champion, Scotiabank Group 4-2 on penalties, after both teams played to a 0-0 draw after full and extra time in the final at Emmet Park on Saturday. In the curtain-raiser, National Commercial Bank defeated former kingpin of business house football Grace Kennedy 3-1 in the Division Two final. Dellon Dixon scored a brace in the 24th and the 40th minutes to give NCB a 2-0 first-half lead. George Clarke make it 3-0 in the 80th minute but Grace Kennedy got the consolation in the 85th minute, when NCB defender, Omar Houslin scored an own goal. In the Division One final, defending champion Petrojam had to work hard to retain their title, as Scotiabank wanted to make a good day for the financial sector. The game was an open affair with both teams missing easy scoring opportunities. Donovan Hibbert, Anthony Greeland and Jamoy Sibblies failed to give the bankers the lead, while Aphas Bernard, Richardo Monroe and David Stultz had goalkeeper Marlon Henry of Scotiabank Group, working overtime with some excellent saves. The half ended 0-0 The second period was a replica of the first, but in the 70th minute, Scotiabank got a golden opportunity to take the lead, when a cross from Jamoy Sibblies was handled by defender Marvin Powell, forcing referee Carvel Banton to award a penalty to Scotiabank. The resulting kick came crashing off the upright by Richard West, as in the most bizarre act, goalkeeper Damion Campbell stooped and watched with his hands behind him, as West took the spot kick. The game went into extra time and then the dreaded penalty shootout. Captain Damion Gordon and Jamoy Sibblies missed for Scotiabank with Stefan Bartley and Jemaine Gardener scoring. Andrew Palmer, David Stultz, Tyrone Davis and Cornelius Simms all scored for Petrojam to lift the trophy, which was dedicated to their ailing and former coach Raymond Quallo. NCB and Petrojam will now meet in the challenge competition on Thursday to decide who will meet the St Ann's Business House Football champion in the Champion of Champions showdown. |
