Up to late yesterday, police and fire personnel were still unable to say what caused a fire that destroyed 12 houses in Majesty Gardens, Kingston 11 on Saturday evening.

Reports from the Hunts Bay police are that about 5:30 p.m., residents saw fire coming from a house in the community and summoned the police and the fire department. The flames however quickly engulfed neighbouring houses.

One unit from the York Park Fire Station and another from the Newport West fire department conducted cooling down operations.

An estimate of the loss has not yet been ascertained and it is not known if the buildings were insured.

The Hunts Bay police are investigating.
