A 25-year-old American fugitive who fled the United States after allegedly staging a robbery in Florida last November, was recently held in Jamaica.

The SunSentinel newspaper has reported that 25-year-old John Edward Mortimer who allegedly robbed the store while pretending to be a security guard, was held in Montego Bay, St James.

It reported that he was apprehended by US marshals.

Mortimer was taken back to the US and charged with armed robbery and grand theft.

He is being held without bond in Broward County jail.

It's reported that, during Black Friday last year, the accused, who was dressed in a Brink's security guard uniform and armed with a gun, walked into a mall store in Florida and left with US$162,000.

Investigators confirmed that Mortimer left on a one-way ticket to Montego Bay on the afternoon of the robbery.
